 New Year’s Resolution: Fish More
Arlington Anglers Fishing Club

By Bob Diebold

It’s that time of year for those usual New Year’s resolutions like
losing ten pounds or giving up smoking. Let’s get serious and focus on some
resolutions that will change the rest of your life: fish more, learn
more about fishing, and join a fishing club.

I interviewed some of our Arlington Anglers members and found many
different reasons why they wanted to belong to the club. Everybody had a #1
reason:
• I wanted to learn more about fishing and hear it from some
knowledgeable fishermen.
• I wanted to be able to go on some fishing outings to new places.
• I wanted to partake of some camaraderie with people that share my
fishing interests.
• I wanted to get out of house.

You may share some or all of the above feelings. You `have
a no-risk opportunity to see first hand what a club can do for you. Now
is the time to find and join a fishing club. Attend our first meeting
of the year on January 16th. Our speaker will be the knowledgeable and
passionate fisherman Chauncey Niziol. He currently hosts "Chauncey's
Great Outdoors" on ESPN Radio Chicago AM-1000. Chauncey also writes weekly
columns for the Liberty Newspaper Group and leads outdoor education
seminars for both schools and Bass Pro Shops. He was the outdoor columnist
for the Chicago Tribune and had a weekly television show on CLTV
covering hunting, fishing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

Over sixty people attended the Club’s Christmas Party on December 10th.
The dinner and drinks served up by the LaMirage Restaurant were
outstanding. Club officers for 2007 were announced. Big Fish Contest winners
received awards and Dennis Rafferty received the Fisherman of the Year
Award. Attendees came away with Christmas presents regardless if they
were naughty or nice.

Dates to remember: January 4-7 Visit the Club booth at NW Chicago
Outdoor Show at Arlington Park; January 16 – Meeting and Speaker Chauncey
Niziol; February 20: Meeting and Speaker

Come to one of our meetings to find out more about our club,
activities, and outings.  Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month
from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. We meet at Dick’s Sports Store (Flr.1-NW) near
Woodfield Shopping Center in Schaumburg, .5 miles north of Higgins, on
Martingale Road. Door prizes, speaker, raffles, fishing reports: Give it
a try!

Wild Game Dinner
Arlington Anglers Fishing Club

By Bob Diebold

Every one in the club looks forward to the Annual Wild Game Dinner.
It’s amazing how many different ways that game can be prepared. This
year was no exception as members were able to clean out their
refrigerators and put out a gourmet spread.

Some of the favorites this year were: Venison stew, wild shrimp
cocktail, venison stir-fry, pheasant tetrazinni, venison sauerbraten, and
dumplings, back-strap medallions with wild mushrooms, and barbeque
Himilayan yak wings.

Prior to the meal, we heard about all the late fall trips with that
warmer those average temperatures. The Chain is still producing pan-fish
and muskies. Jerry Lopez is still catching those huge brown trout in
Kenosha harbor. Reports of successful hunting trips are coming in: prairie
dogs in South Dakota, pheasants at Green River, deer being taken by
archers.
